Deploying the R1Soft Backup Agent  Print this Article

NOTE: Run all OS updates on your server (Windows and Linux) before deploying the backup agent.

The R1Soft Backup Agent software is easily deployed to your server(s) by issuing commands from within the R1Soft Backup Manager. Before deploying the agent, please make changes to the firewall which protects your server as follows:

  • Linux servers: Allow connections from the Backup Manager (192.95.97.34) on TCP port 22
  • Windows servers: Allow connections from the Backup Manager (192.95.97.34) on TCP port 445
  • Windows and Linux servers: Allow connections from the Backup Manager (192.95.97.34) on TCP port 1167
If you are running Windows Advanced Firewall (WAF) on your windows server in addition to an external firewall, you will need to add an inbound rule to WAF allowing connections on port 445, as WAF will block this by default.

To deploy the R1Soft Backup Agent:
  1. Click Home in the top menu bar, then click R1Soft Backup Service under Your Active Products/Services;
  2. On the Manage tab, click on Log In To Control Panel;
  3. Click on Protected Machines from the left sidebar;
  4. Click the gear icon under Actions for the server you need to work with, then choose Deploy Agent Software from the menu (if you need to add a new server, use this guide);
  5. Enter the root (Linux) or Administrator (Windows) login name in the Username field, and supply the Password for the account. Note that root/Administrator privileges are required to install the agent;
  6. If deploying to a Windows server, tick the box next to Reboot windows servers after deployment (a reboot is required after the agent is installed on Windows or it will not function properly);
  7. Enter a custom configuration for the agent installation if desired;
  8. Click Deploy Agent to start the process of copying and installing the backup agent.
To view the progress of the agent installation, return to the Protected Machines list, click the gear icon for the machine, select Task History, then click the arrow next to the 'deploying agent' task to view progress and details. If the agent deployment fails, the Logs tab on this screen will provide more information.

When deployment is completed, select Test Agent Connection from the gear icon menu to confirm successful communication with the agent on the server. An immediate backup can now be performed if desired (gear icon -> Backup now).
