Managing VDC Server Firewalls  Print this Article

NOTE: The server management system places all requests in a queue which uses a first-in-first-out model and may relay commands and requests over long distances. Some operations may take up to several minutes before they are completed and the results are updated in the management interface. Please be patient and do not submit duplicate commands as this will only result in problems.

  1. Navigate to the management area of your VDC and click on the Manage button for the desired machine (see this guide);
  2. On the screen which displays the Virtual Server Details for the machine, locate the Additional Tools button group and click Firewall Management;
  3. The Firewall Rules screen displays a list of any existing rules, an area for adding new rules, and an area to set the default firewall rule. The following functions can be performed from this screen:
    1. Edit existing firewall rule - click the pencil icon on a rule to edit its settings. You can then change the values for Command, Source Address, Destination Port and Protocol. Click the disk icon to save your changes;
    2. Delete existing firewall rule - click the red 'X' icon a rule to remove it. You'll be presented with a dialog box to confirm the action;
    3. Delete multiple existing firewall rules - tick the box at the left of each firewall rule you wish to remove, then click Delete Selected at the bottom of the rules list. You'll be presented with a dialog box to confirm the action;
    4. Add A Firewall Rule - enter the desired values for Command, Source Address, Destination Port and Protocol, then click Add Rule;
    5. Default Firewall Rules - set the desired default handling for incoming traffic to your machine (ACCEPT or DROP), then click Save Default Firewall Rules;
  4. When you are finished working with the firewall, be sure to click Apply Firewall Rules to active your changes and load them into the running firewall config.
