Building VDC Servers Imprimer cet article
NOTE: The server management system places all requests in a queue which uses a first-in-first-out model and may relay commands and requests over long distances. Some operations may take up to several minutes before they are completed and the results are updated in the management interface. Please be patient and do not submit duplicate commands as this will only result in problems. |
- Order services in the VDC of your choice (follow this guide);
- Go to your client area homepage;
- Find your VDC under "Your Active Products/Services" and click on it;
- On the "Manage" tab for the VDC, click Create Virtual Server;
- Give the new server a Label, Hostname and Domain (example: "My Http Server", "www" "mydomain.com");
- Select a machine Template from the list of available OS images (these will vary by VDC location);
- Enter a root/administrator password for the machine. If none is specified, the system will provide a random password. It can consist of 6-32 characters, letters [A-Za-z], digits [0-9], dash [ - ] and lower dash [ _ ], and the following special characters: ~ ! @ # $ * _ - + = ` \\ { } [ ] : ; ' , . ? /. You can use both lower- and uppercase letters.
- If you have an OS License Key, enter it (not required in most cases);
- Set the values for Memory, CPU and CPU Shares, Primary and Swap storage, IP addresses and Port Speed. Note that the ranges for these will be limited according to the amount of resources that you have already used for previous machine builds in this VDC. Some suggestions:
- Memory allocations from 512MB to 2GB are good for Linux servers; 4GB minimum is best for Windows servers;
- Use one CPU Share for each CPU unless you have a specific reason for assigning more shares per CPU;
- Set Swap Disk size to double your Memory size;
- Click Add New Virtual Server to start the build of the new machine. If there are any problems with your values or settings, the current page will reload with informational messages;
- That's it! You'll be returned to the management area for the VDC, and you'll see a message confirming that your machine build has been scheduled. You will also see your new machine listed under "Your Virtual Servers" on the Manage tab. A status indicator will turn from red to green when your server is build and booted. You can click the Manage button that is alongside your new server to watch details of the building and startup of the machine.
